Promoting Services that Buy Mobile Phones for Recycling

How can we encourage more consumers to recycle their mobile phones?

The studies are rather alarming: There are more than 90 million unwanted and unused mobile phones in the UK at any one time. The vast majority of the owners of these phones have no idea that they can recycle them. And they most certainly don’t know that they can recycle these old phones for money.

That leads to a big question: What can you do to encourage more people to recycle their old mobile phones?

You might not think you can make a difference, but actually you can. It’s all about spreading the word that not only is it possible to recycle a mobile phone, but it can be profitable, too.

You’ll need some facts to convince your friends. First, start by telling them that about 80 percent of the parts of a mobile phone are able to be recycled. Next, tell them that mobile phones and other electronic devices today are taking up an inordinate amount of space in the country’s landfills.

There’s a reason for this; it’s because consumers are so eager to upgrade to better mobile phones, laptop computers, laser printers and computer monitors. And when they upgrade, they have no idea what to do with their old monitors, laptops, printers and phones. Most owners simply shove these devices into an unused corner of their homes. Others make the more costly mistake of throwing these items out with their other trash.

If you want to convince your friends and family members not to do this, remind them that many old electronic devices contain potentially dangerous chemicals, including mobile phones. Remind them that these chemicals can leech into the soil. That’s something no one wants.

Finally, tell your friends, co-workers and family members that not only is mobile phone recycling the right thing to do, it can also bring them a bit of extra spending money.

That argument should hold some real weight. The local economy, like most major economies today, is in fairly rough shape. Companies are still laying people off in droves. Businesses are shutting their doors. Employers are asking their workers to accept cuts in the amount of paid hours they can work.

A little extra money, even if it’s a fairly small amount, should be appreciated by anyone who has an old mobile phone to dispose of.

Remind your friends that their old mobile phone now isn’t doing anyone any good. If they recycle their mobile phone, a refurbished version of it might end up in the hands of a needy individual who can’t afford to buy a mobile phone of his or her own. Or it may be sent to a local non-profit agency or charitable group that can’t afford to purchase new mobiles, either.

But back to that money part: Mobile phone owners can work with any number of private recycling companies that pay cash for old phones. They simply have to find these firms on the Web – and there are many of them from which to choose – log onto their sites and find their make and model of mobile. They’ll then instantly see what the recycler is willing to pay them for their mobile phone.

These rates can vary significantly, but consumers can expect to make anywhere from 10 pounds on the low end to 120 pounds or more on the higher end.

It’s everyone’s responsibility to be kind to the environment. You can do your part by convincing the people you know that recycling their mobile phones for cash makes perfect sense. If you spread this word, there’s no telling how many people your own friends and family members will actually convince, too. And that’s the way to make a real difference.
