Are there any good reasons not to recycle your old mobile for cash?

Our country’s landfills are facing a problem: They’re becoming too cluttered with old electronics. Electronics place a great strain on landfills. Not only are they taking up an ever larger percentage of space in them, they often leak potential harmful chemicals into the soil. These include such unpleasant ones as cadmium, lead and beryllium.

Consumers who want to do something about this have an option. They can turn to a number of private recycling companies who offer cash for old mobiles. It’s an easy process, and a great way for consumers to put some extra spending money in their pockets while doing their part to protect the environment.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of UK residents still throw their old mobile phones away whenever they upgrade to new models. The biggest reason for this is ignorance: Most UK residents, unfortunately, have no idea how to recycle their mobile phones.

Hopefully, this will change as residents see how easy and quick the recycling process actually is.

I’m worried about what the recyclers will do with my old phone: Most times, private recyclers refurbish old mobile phones. They then either sell them at discounted rates or donate them to charitable organizations or non-profits. Remember, there are plenty of people out there in need of a mobile phone. Unfortunately, many people can not afford to buy new mobiles on their own. Other times, private recyclers will disassemble old mobiles and recycle their important parts, such as their metals and plastics. Either way, consumers can rest easy knowing that their mobile phones won’t end up in a landfill somewhere.

In short, there are no good reasons for consumers to not recycle their old mobile phones for cash. Not only are consumers doing a good deed for the environment when they keep their mobiles out of the waste stream, they’re adding a bit of extra spending money to their own pockets. Now, they won’t make a fortune. And, no, recycling one mobile phone won’t save the environment. But it’s at least a step in the right direction.
